Liquid Capacity Tool

Tank Volume Calculator

Calculate the exact capacity of storage tanks in gallons and liters. Input your dimensions to securely map total holding capacity, or provide a fill depth to isolate current liquid levels.

Supports horizontal, vertical, and oval (elliptical) layouts
Evaluates partial-fill geometry automatically
Standardizes data into Gallon (US) and Liter pipelines
Tank Volume Calculator
Estimate total tank capacity and filled volume in Gallons and Liters. All inputs must be in Inches.

Leave blank to just calculate total capacity.

Tank Configurations & Mathematics

Horizontal Cylinder

Commonly used for septic storage and propane. Calculating total capacity is simple, but calculating a partially filled horizontal cylinder is complex due to the shifting 'wedge' (circular segment) created by the fluid level across the cylinder's face.

Vertical Cylinder

Often utilized for massive municipal water storage or industrial chemical vats. Partial volume scales linearly: if the tank is half full by height depth, it securely holds exactly half of its total volume.

Rectangular

Standard fish aquariums, cargo totes, and square fluid sumps. It relies on standard internal Length × Width × Height boundaries. Similar to vertical setups, partial fill levels scale in perfect linear correlation with height.
