For $4,000 custodial and $6,000 non-custodial gross monthly income with two children ($10,000 combined):
Estimated NCP monthly payment
$1,094.40
Basic obligation (2 children)
$1,824.00
Our Virginia child support calculator applies the Commonwealth’s income-shares model: first determine combined monthly gross income, then look up the guideline basic child support obligation from the statutory schedule for the number of children. Amounts between listed income levels are interpolated. The non-custodial parent’s estimated payment is that parent’s pro-rata share of the basic obligation. This mirrors the common explanation of Virginia guideline worksheets used with Form DC-600 and related forms.
Basic obligation = Schedule lookup(combined income, # children)NCP payment = Basic obligation × (NCP income ÷ combined income)Combined income is compared to schedule points up to $35,000.00 per month in our reference table; higher incomes extrapolate from the top segment.
Virginia guideline schedule + pro-rata shares (conceptual)
Illustrative result: non-custodial monthly payment ≈ $1,094.40 (basic table amount only; before add-ons).
Same $10,000 combined: schedule basic for one child is about $1,251; NCP 60% ≈ $750.60 before add-ons.
If combined income exceeds the highest breakpoint in the tool, we extrapolate and flag it—verify with counsel for very high incomes.
