We compute the top surface area of your baked layer from pan shape: round uses πr², square uses side², and rectangles use length × width—all in square inches. Then we divide by the area of one slice (width × height for rectangular slices from the top view).

Frosting overhang, curved cuts, and scraps are not subtracted—real life varies.
