How do I calculate swimming pace per 100 meters?

Divide your total swim time in seconds by the distance in meters, then multiply by 100. For example, 400 m in 6:00 is 360 seconds ÷ 400 × 100 = 90 seconds per 100 m, written as 1:30/100m.

How do I convert between 100m pace and 100-yard pace?

100 yards equals 91.44 meters (international yard definition). The calculator uses that conversion so you can plan SCY (short-course yards) and meter pools consistently—enter distance in meters or yards and see both pace formats.

Does this work for a 25-yard or 50-meter pool?

Yes. Enter any total distance (e.g. 500 yd, 800 m, 1650 yd). The tool averages your pace over the full distance; it does not add turn time separately. Use it for repeat sets by entering one repetition’s distance and time.

How do I estimate race time from a target pace?

Choose “Pace per 100m + distance → time” or the 100-yard mode, enter your goal pace and race distance. Total time equals pace per 100 multiplied by (distance ÷ 100) in the same units.

Is open-water pace the same as pool pace?

The math is the same for average speed, but open water usually adds sighting, navigation, and current. Many athletes swim slower per 100 m in open water than in a pool at the same effort—treat results as a planning baseline.

What is a good 100m freestyle pace?

It depends on age, stroke, and experience. Competitive youth, masters, and fitness swimmers span a wide range. A coach or structured test set (e.g. CSS or critical swim speed) is better for personal targets than a generic “good” number.

How accurate is average speed in m/s?

It is total distance divided by total time—your steady average. Bursts, kick sets, and drills are not modeled separately; use consistent repeats for meaningful pacing.

Can I use this for triathlon swim legs?
